Hi guys,
how are you today? Hope you are having a good day. :)
Firstly, I was planning to do a different type of blog for today. I wanted to talk about branding of our entrepreneurship and how we hope to be perceived. But that change quite quickly. You see, on our first blog we got some questions from our lovely readers. One of these questions came from ZaadeyBoy93, who was asking if we could take a look on different types of diseases such as Myotonic Dystrophy and if we could maybe try to find a way to help people suffering these types of disabilities too.
Of course after reading that comment I decided, I need to try and look it up. To be completely honest with you before this blog post, my knowledge of Myotonic Dystrophy was really bad. I heard about this disease and new the name, but that was about it. I have never met anyone suffering it and I never had a reason to really look it up. But that all changed thanks to ZaadeyBoy93 and this blog. So after quite extensive research and quite a lot of reading, here is some of the information I found out about the Myotonic Dystrophy.
Firstly, in case you don't know it, let me explain what Myotonic Dystrophy is. Myotonic Dystrophy is "a part of a group of inherited disorders called muscular dystrophies". It is the most common form of muscular dystrophy, which begins in adulthood. What it essentially does to your body is not letting you relax your muscles when you want. People suffering this disease can suffer numerous symptoms such as muscle weakness or wasting, speech problems, heart problems, intellectual disabilities and many others. There are two types of Myotonic Dystrophy, which overlap in many areas, but still differs mainly in the severity of them.
This disability affects at least 1 in 8000 people worldwide. The treatment of this diseasw varies based on the type, when was this disease developed and what symptoms the person suffers from. But it normally includes any type of support items to manage the symptoms and minimaze the disability. Males are more likely to suffer this disability and it can affect people at any age as you can see on the graph below.

When it comes to employment of people with this disability, it all depends on how severe their symptoms and disabilities are. There are people who can still work with no problem or with just a few small restrictions and there are people who are not able to work at all. This made me think, if there is any possibility of us helping with the employment using our idea. And to be honest, I still don't know how we could help. I was thinking about different changes and how to make it work and I'm sure there is a way to do it, but I have to admit that I would need to do much more research to really be able to find a suitable solution or update our idea to make it work.
From what I know right now, I know that there would have to be different changes in our idea, based on the severity of this disability. I would also like to ensure that when we will be ready to make these changes, we would like to contact and hopefully be able to create a partnership with an organisation called 'Working Wheels' as it is an organisation, which helps people with Myotonic Dystrophy find a job and take care of themselves. But as I said before I need to undertake much more research before that.
Ok, that's all for today. I would like to one more time, thank to ZaadeyBoy93 for bringing my attention to this problem. :) I hope, I explained this disability correctly and I do apologise if any of these information are inaccurate. But as I said in the beginning my knowledge of this topic was quite poor and this blog is based on the research I did. I would love to work on out idea with this disability in mind much more in the future and hopefully we will be able to come up with some suitable solution and help at least a little.
As usual, I hope you enjoyed this post and thank you for reading it. I hope this helps to increase your knowledge of this topic as much as it did help me. :) Let me know what you think, I am really looking forward your opinions. Also, in case any of the information I provided in this post are inaccurate, please let me know and I will change immediately change it.
Talk to you soon,
Iva
